چکیده

We establish a self-consistent variational framework that allows us to study numerically the non-equilibrium evolution of non-perturbative inhomogeneous field configurations including quantum backreaction effects. After discussing the practical merits and disadvantages of different approaches we provide a closed set of local and renormalizable update equations that determine the dynamical evolution of inhomogeneous condensates and can be implemented numerically. These incorporate self-consistently the backreaction of quantum fluctuations and particle production. This program requires the solution of a self-consistent inhomogeneous problem to provide initial Cauchy data for the inhomogeneous condensates and Green’s functions. We provide a simple solvable ansatz for such an initial value problem for the Sine Gordon and φ4 quantum field theories in one spatial dimension. We compare exact known results of the Sine Gordon model to this simple ansatz. We also study the linear sigma model in the large N limit in three spatial dimensions as a microscopic model for pion production in ultrarelativistic collisions. We provide a solvable self-consistent ansatz for the initial value problem with cylindrical symmetry. For this case we also obtain a closed set of local and renormalized update equations that can be numerically implemented. A novel phenomenon of spinodal instabilities and pion production arises as a result of a Klein paradox for large amplitude inhomogeneous condensate configurations. 11.10.-z,11.10.Wx,11.10.Ex,25.75.-q Typeset using REVTEX

Pitt-98-??; Lpthe-98/54 Dynamical Renormalization Group Resummation of Finite Temperature Infrared Divergences

We introduce the method of dynamical renormalization group to study relaxation and damping out of equilibrium directly in real time and applied it to the study of infrared divergences in scalar QED. This method allows a consistent resummation of infrared effects associated with the exchange of quasistatic transverse photons and leads to anomalous logarithmic relaxation of the form e−α T t ln[t/...

We show that linear Regge trajectories for mesons and baryons, and the cubic mass spectrum associated with them, determine expressions for the hadron masses in terms of the universal Regge slope α ′ alone. The ground state hadron masses as calculated from these expressions are in excellent agreement with experiment for α ′ = 0.85 GeV −2 .

The fading of symmetry non-restoration at finite temperature

The fate of symmetries at high temperature determines the dynamics of the very early universe. It is conceivable that temperature effects favor symmetry breaking instead of restoration. Concerning global symmetries, the non-linear sigma model is analyzed in detail. For spontaneously broken gauge symmetries, we propose the gauge boson magnetic mass as a “flag” for symmetry (non)-restoration. We ...

We show that Regge phenomenology is consistent with the only universal scaling law for hadron masses, M * /M = (α ′ /α ′ *) 1/2 , where asterisk indicates a finite-temperature quantity. Phenomenological models further suggest the following expression of the above scaling in terms of the temperature-dependent gluon conden-sate: M * /M = (α ′ /α ′ *) 1/2 = (G a µν * /G aµν) 1/4. It is known that ...
